So happy for you starting your first book. I appreciate your attitude toward it as well. Enjoy the fun of putting your thoughts on paper with abandon. You know you will be going back over it later. Brought back alot of cherished memories with your Halloween piece. Thanks for that!

Thank you so much Linda! I always have to keep my chin up when I start a new work. It's easy to let the jitters get the best of me.

I'm thinking of creating an outline and dipping my toe into NaNoWiMo this year just to utilize the energy of all these other writers filling pages of words. Is that your plan or it is just perfect timing on your end?

It's total coincidence on my end, but I think I'm in your boat. I'd like to feed off the excitement of other writers and really go for it come November, though I'm hoping to have a semi-good portion started by then!

There are two things that stand out from my Halloween days. I almost always ended up with the costume of last resort, an old white sheet with eye holes crudely cut which was always getting caught under my feet as we ran from house to house. And there was one house that everyone tried to get to early because the lady there gave out full size hotdogs with the trimmings. We desperately wanted to get there before she ran out!

Thanks for sharing the re-launch of your novel. I know it's going to be a great story and would happily put in a pre-order right now!

Thank you always Frank for your kind words. It's always intimidating to start a long work, but I think I at least have a lasso around it this time.

My kids have both decided to be ghosts this year. White sheets, eye holes, that's it! It's funny to see a new generation embrace a throwback, but in a way, it's so much more fun. I so wish I had a house that gave out hot dogs. There is one along our trick or treat route that gives out beer to the adults, but that's not quite the same.

So glad to hear you have outlined and begun work on a novel. Finding one’s way back into a work that has been on hiatus is an amazing feeling: the excitement of a fresh project somehow married to the familiar work already done, and all of it viewed with a keener more clear eye.

Absolutely. It feels simultaneously more and less intimidating knowing where the story goes. Now I just have to write it well...no pressure!

Congrats on starting your novel!! May the words flow onto the page like Halloween candy from a goodie bag.

Love the Halloween memories ... beautifully, poignantly expressed - gorgeous writing. I was away at school from a young age and halloween really wasn't a *thing*. I suspect kids in the UK are more into it now (sadly, probably, because the weight of consumerist advertising tells them they should be). But I love the way you tell it.

Thank you so much! I always feel bad when people haven't experienced a classic Halloween. Like every other holiday it's getting more commercial every year.

The novel comment surprised me. I thought you were a veteran author. I'm sure it will be great.

Your Halloween story is so poignant, happy and sad at the same time. So many undertones, things hinted at but not spoken. Masterful.

I am far from a veteran author. I started this particular novel two years ago and got lost halfway through. I decided to outline to see if I could get a map of the story and so far it worked! I at least know where things go.

Always appreciate your comments and encouragement Virginia!

Since I want to eventually publish my Harold and Sallie stories in book form, I've started thinking of how to flesh out the stories that I've published on here so far, and doing some research on fairy folk lore. I'm thinking that bringing a tad bit more....realism (? for lack of better wordage) to the world that Sallie comes from, might make for better storytelling.

That's a good Halloween memory, thanks for sharing!

Thanks Kim! I love the teeny bit of fairy folklore I've read about. I hope you enjoy bringing Sallie's world to life on the page.

Grats, Shaina on outlining and starting your novel! A daunting task, taken best chapter by chapter. And the Halloween memory! Excellent! I recommend everyone stay away from Sensorama Smart Homes, no matter the amount of promising candy ahead! ;)

Dare I ask...what is a Sensorama Smart Home?? I'll do anything for candy so...
