The thing I have the hardest time with in any story is cruelty toward animals or an animal's death. So I was absolutely delighted when Mother got her justice. I was a little sad about the buck...but Sugar made up for it. Perfect name for a sweet pup. Perfect ending. Loved it!
I truly enjoyed this tale! Reading it just before going to bed myself… perfection. I, too, was introduced to the collections of short, shaped, fear inducing fiction at a young age. They were spine tingling yet never gave me nightmares. Although they ended up giving me detention because I tried to emulate them in English writing assignments… 😊 I will be looking for more, and hope you continue to enjoy writing them!

Me too Liz. I wrote her ending happily
Sugar! Loved this.

That last line--amazing. This was visceral, and the emotional backdrop of the family dynamic was just instant tension. Loving this series!
Thank you Scoot! Means a lot!
Superb, visceral details of the scene with the deer and Mother getting what she deserved. Fantastic, Shaina. Gruesome, but gruesomely good.
These lines are my highlights:
“Leif—” she managed briefly, then gurgled as the deer shook her again.
Blood spots were forming on her coat, the antlers poking through in a few places. She would die, and not easily.
Rufff!
A killer of a tail, a tale of a killer! Yes
Amazing word play!
