I love him too! I haven’t read any of his short stories yet. I have a book of them, When All the People Lights Go Out, but I haven’t started it yet. Do you remember any favorites?
Welcome to the Reptile House I read out loud to my wife in bed and she yelled at me to stop, it was scaring her, and I didn’t know a story could do that, desensitized as I am, so that one has a special place in my heart. I also remember it having elements I consider specifically SGJ style - like if a monster was real, it wouldn’t be like the movies, it’d be in this weird grounded way of his. His novel Mongrels does that with werewolves, where the family can’t stay in one place, they’re always having to move. Also, from that collection I like The Dead Are Not, again because it’s weird, and it’s “grounded,” but also because it has a final sentence that makes it a completely different story, and it’s a trick I hope to do sometime in my own writing!
Well this was a lovely surprise to wake up to, thank you Shaina, that's super kind of you to link my stack 🙏
Thanks for linking those others, too. I shall be checking those out :D
Great recs on the books. I'm super intrigued by what you say of Stephen Graham Jones' style. I want to check that out and so will download a sample to my Kindle.
I also haven't read any Saunders (!!). Sounds like the audio of Thursday is the way to go. I'll listen to that today.
I also read Thursday and it was also my first time reading George! I also loved it. I read rather than listened but once I started I couldn't put it down (my phone) before I finished.
I wrote about the Prime series of Dead Ringers recently if you haven't seen it, or if you have and have an opinion! I've also just started Carrie thanks to your Book Club post. Have a great weekend.
Way down the road, but noticed I hadn't touched it. A very interesting binge issue. I must come back to some of the recommendations a little later after I whittle down some of yours and Daniel's that I have lined up now.
Solid recommendation 👍👍👍
I love Stephen Graham Jones! I’ve bought many a horror anthology just to read his contribution.

You deserve it!
Stephen Graham Jones isn’t for everyone, but I really like his stories. Hope you find something you like!
