Oh boy Shaina, that is good! Welcome back! You managed to stretch a thin strand of hope to a breaking point, all the way to the last paragraph. This in spite of my rational mind telling me there was no hope, for the horror beast doesn't allow it...
Bravo! Welcome back Shaina. So good to be reading your words again. I've always loved swimming in the ocean, myself. Though I do get nervous out past the breakers. Fear of the deep must be one of our oldest instincts. Out there, the imagination certainly takes on a life of its own.
Ian! It’s been too long. I do like swimming in the ocean, but whenever I think back to how wild and unpredictable it can be, I come up with stories like this.
Welcome back, Shaina. I hope you and your family are doing ok. It's lovely to see you back here posting, and this was a fantastic and creepy return. Pulled me in beneath the waves from the first paragraph.
If I didn't know you were a King fan then I'd have said you were a King fan because of the excellent use of those parentheses! 😊
One of my favourite lines is this: She looked out, pain in her tightening chest at the certainty that Walker was gone, sacrificed to some old sea god she didn’t know the name of.
There's so much possibility in that "some old sea god". Big fan of mythology and folklore and this all taps into that so well.
Super creepy, Shaina. I enjoyed the story very much. You really hate the beach don’t you? 🏖️
I love it when I’m there, but late at night when I reflect on what I was playing in with my children, my mind goes to these dark places 😂

An amazing story! All the mystery and terror of deep water, and the dangers of the dreamworld…beautifully done!
Thank you Liz!

You know me too well 😂 the parentheses are totally stolen from King. Happy to be back Nathan!
visceral...engaging...mysterious...loved it
Absolutely incredible. Beautifully dark, tense and sad. Brilliant
Excellent. Never going near water again.
