Creepy good story telling!

Oof this was great. I always shy away from post-apocalyptic stories/shows/movies because they feel too close to home, revealing just how thin the veneer of civilization actually is. You really nailed that desperation, the animal-like quality in all of us. But then! You twisted my heart strings with the image of the family at the end - changed but together. So good.

The Lord of the flies reference is perfect to drive home the savagery we all possess

Yay! Glad to see this out in the wild! Great story and sooo much emotion. I have conflicting emotions about Ishmael, and I love that.

Shaina, whenever I see a story post from you, I know it's going to be a treat! You do not disappoint with this one! This is a wonderful construct of all the fear, rationalization, guilt, self centering and survival instinct that is the morass in the mind of an adolescent boy dealing with adult decision making. A mind trapped between reality and a mirage I think...

(Note- There does seem to be some interference going on with a spelling checker here and there though)

Thanks for sharing your story. I couldn't follow the story perfectly, but you do imagery and description, quite well. I had no trouble at all painting the imagery in my head. I really appreciate you sharing this.
